Daffodil Lessons

Daffodil Lessons

What daffodils taught me this spring about my artist self.

The Golden Ginkgo

The Golden Ginkgo

There are only a few times in my life where I’ve stood amongst nature and felt moved. Staring in awe at the magnificent sight before me as I was transported to another world. The Ginkgo Grove was such a place, such a magical place.

The Mother, Part 1

The day I watched the arboretum awaken, I saw spring herself.

She wandered the barren earth and called color from the ground with her toes. Her skirt train caught mud and pine, her cheeks pinched with the leftover chill. When spring arrives each year, I see her as a mother. The two roles are bonded in my thoughts. They share the ideas of growth, resilience, rebirth, change, and grace. When my dear friend became pregnant with her first girl, I knew I wanted to shoot something like this. Portraying the part in my mind where motherhood and spring come together.

The Vintage Stink

The Vintage Stink

Sometimes vintage stinks….literally.

Foraging Wild Violets

Foraging Wild Violets

Let's talk about edible flowers! Pulling honeysuckle off the vine in the Summertime was always my favorite thing to do as a kid, it still is.

The Guardians

The Guardians

6 hours. 5 women. Out somewhere in the mountains of Virginia where phone service is nonexistent. Traveling through a landscape that doesn’t seem real and even though it is, you feel too unworthy to be in its presence. A group called “The Guardians” comes to life.

The Path

The Path

All the plans I had went out the window. It was one of the biggest disappointments in my life at that time. A letdown moment like no other. Even today it is funny to remember how I felt, sitting in the van with a torn rejection letter. I was devastated, confused and angry. My life changed.

Lessons From The Garden

Lessons From The Garden

Gardening is my favorite thing to do besides photography. I get my exercise, prayer time, and relaxation by digging in dirt and taking care of plants I have brought up since seeds. At first I thought gardening and photography were two separate things in my life. Gardening was a way to recoup when photography took too much out of me.
