The Mother, Part 1

The day I watched the arboretum awaken, I saw spring herself.

She wandered the barren earth and called color from the ground with her toes. Her skirt train caught mud and pine, her cheeks pinched with the leftover chill. When spring arrives each year, I see her as a mother. The two roles are bonded in my thoughts. They share the ideas of growth, resilience, rebirth, change, and grace. When my dear friend became pregnant with her first girl, I knew I wanted to shoot something like this. Portraying the part in my mind where motherhood and spring come together.
