Jessica LaRue is a fine art photographer, author, prop maker, dress hunter and sometimes fairy godmother.
All the plans I had went out the window. It was one of the biggest disappointments in my life at that time. A letdown moment like no other. Even today it is funny to remember how I felt, sitting in the van with a torn rejection letter. I was devastated, confused and angry. My life changed.
After a week or so of visiting old photographer friends and making new ones, I realized the importance of having creative buddies and how it has changed my photography world.
Gardening is my favorite thing to do besides photography. I get my exercise, prayer time, and relaxation by digging in dirt and taking care of plants I have brought up since seeds. At first I thought gardening and photography were two separate things in my life. Gardening was a way to recoup when photography took too much out of me.
If you are anything like me, the first years of your photography career live in a dark dark place on an external hard-drive in a drawer you never open. I do not have the heart to delete them, no matter how much I hate them. In fact I need them.
Here you will find the magic of LaRue's everyday, full photo stories, DIY prop making, client sessions, behind the scenes and so much more.
